FMO Mailing List FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is this a free list?
A. Yes, no fees are asked.

Q. Must I be a member of the Spacewatch FMO Project to subscribe?
A. Yes you must be. This is *not* a general astronomy/asteroid mailing list
but one specific to the Spacewatch volunteer image reviewer program.

Q. Must I be subscribed to post?
A. Yes you must be. Posts from mail addresses other than those subscribed,
    will bounce.

Q. Being subscribed, where should I post messages to?
A. To fmo@freelists.org
Q. I want to change my mail preferences. How do I do this?
A. First, log yourself in at http://www.freelists.org/cgi-bin/lsg2.cgi
Then select 'fmo' from "Lists" and click "select list" button.
You can now view your current settings by clicking the button "view settings".
You can alter your settings by clicking the button "change settings". You'll get
into a new menu, where you can tag or un-tag different options.

Q. How can I reach the admin off-list?
A. By mailing to fmo-admins@freelists.org

Q. Is there an archive of old messages?
A. Yes there is, at http://www.freelists.org/archives/fmo/

Q. Are attachments allowed?
A. Yes, but we ask you to not send attachments over 75 kB to protect our
subscribers on dial-up. If you want to share a larger file, put it on
a webserver and provide a link in your message.

Q. Something's wrong with my subscription. What should I do?
A. Try to reconfigure your mail settings through "change settings".
If that fails contact the admin at fmo-admins@freelists.org

Q. Can I set my preferences to receiving a daily 'Digest' instead of
    individual mail?
A. Yes you can, by selecting "change settings" when you are logged in
and checking the appropriate option. Digests of postings are sent
    every 12 hours.

Q. Can I set the mailing list to temporarily send me no mail while
    I am on vacation?
A. Yes you can, through selecting "change settings" and then checking
the appropriate option after logging in. You'll receive no mail as long
as you leave this option tagged, for a maximum period of 30 days. To
start receiving mail again, log in and un-tag the option.

Q. I am paranoid, and don't want to show up in the subscriber's list!
A. Okay. Log in to your account (see above), click "Change Settings", and
then check "Hide". Only the admin will see you in the subscribers list now.

Q. Why does my e-mail address, but not my name appear in the subscriber's
list? I see others have their name listed too.
A. Log in to your account, click "Change Settings, and fill in "Full Name" at the top.

Q. What is 'on topic' for this list?
A. All mails relating to the Spacewatch FMO project, and/or
    Near Earth Asteroids

Q. Is 'off topic' posting allowed on this list?
A. Yes, although the focus should stay on the FMO Project, some off-topic
posting is allowed, e.g. on general astronomy. Use your common sense in
determining whether a post is appropriate. Preferably, mark off topic
posts with a prefix 'OT' in the subject line.

Q. I think I have something interesting to sell!
A. Please don't post on this list, thank you: NO SPAM!

Q. My question is not answered in this FAQ!
A. Mail the admin at fmo-admins@freelists.org
